Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then discovered multiple other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests show the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; authorities are presently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for details.
A high-ranking representative said the vandalism made him speechless and required to be addressed promptly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, referring to the death of nine people by a gunman targeting residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
