EU Officials Condemn US Action as ‘Intimidation’
European leaders including the French president charged Washington of “coercion and intimidation”, after the visa restrictions targeted figures who have been at the heart of campaigns to introduce legislation governing US-based technology firms.
“For too long, ideologues in Europe have spearheaded coordinated campaigns to pressure American platforms to punish US perspectives they disagree with,” wrote a senior US official in a social media post. “This government will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship.”
